Obituary
Shirley “Shaindel” Greenspan (née Kalish), 100, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026. Beloved wife and best friend of the late Meyer for 49 wonderful years; loving mother of Marla (Michael) Solarz, Phillip (Nancy) Greenspan, Robin (Rick) Weber, and Scott Greenspan; cherished “Nana” of Rachael (Drew) Smith, Evan (Kathryn) Weber, Daniel (Dana) Weber, and the late Samuel Solarz; adored great-grandmother of Emelia, Shai, Elise, and Carter; much-loved sister of Buddy (the late Gail) Kalish, the late Doris (Morrie) Bischaf, and the late Mort (late Rose) Kalish; treasured aunt, great-aunt, and friend to many. Shaindel was stubborn, fiercely independent, and wonderfully unfiltered. She was known for leading every conversation with sarcasm and humor, always aiming to make others smile and laugh. She and her beloved Meyer built a beautiful life together, raising a close and loving family. Shirley took great pride in her family, her heritage, and her love of Israel. She hosted many holiday gatherings in her home, where she shared her joy of cooking with those she loved. Family meant everything to her — especially her adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. Memorial donations in her name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org/donate.

Having known Robin for over 50 years, my fondest memories of Shirley were when Robin and I were at Niles North in high school. She was so much fun to be around – she treated us like adults and friends. The Skokie house was our place to party and when Robin’s parents would come home from their night out – Shirley would come down and “hang” with us – have a drink and a cigarette with the girls. She remembered so much about my family well into her 90’s. Our deepest condolences to the Greenspan family – you know she lived a full life surrounded by all your love. May God bless you all. I remember Shirley’s smile. I would see her up and about in the neighborhood. She was always upbeat . Marla has the same smile❤️
