Gertrude “Gertie” Kesselman, 102, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on July 29, 2026. Beloved wife and best friend of the late Sol for over 71 wonderful years; devoted mother of Linda Kesselman, Barbara Woltanski and Susie (Mike) Shamberg; cherished grandmother of Harrison (Amanda Silver) Shamberg and Elliott Shamberg; dear sister of the late Sam (the late Rose) Sherman, the late Phil (the late Annette) Sherman and the late Sophie (the late Sol) Enenstein; adored aunt, great-aunt and treasured friend of many. Gertie will also be deeply missed by her faithful cat, Shadow. A longtime resident of Niles and Skokie, Gertie devoted her life to her family and found great joy in caring for those she loved. She was an exceptional cook who delighted in entertaining family and friends, enjoyed traveling the world, and never passed up an opportunity for a little shopping. She was an avid bridge, poker, Mah Jong player, enjoyed playing the piano, and was a member of a chorus, where she shared her love of music. Of all her accomplishments, becoming a grandmother brought Gertie her greatest happiness. Nothing meant more to her than attending her grandsons’ school events, sporting competitions, and celebrations of their achievements. Her unwavering love, encouragement and pride in her family will remain her lasting legacy. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregivers, Maya, Sarah, and Nikki, and to the compassionate staff of CAREtender Hospice and Inspirations of Northbrook for the exceptional care and kindness they provided.
