Francine (nee’ Meyerowitz) Appelbaum, 80, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026. She was the beloved wife and best friend of the late Dr. William Appelbaum for 54 wonderful years; loving mother of Michael (Risa) and Erica; cherished “Savta” of Haley and Eliana; much-loved sister of the late Fred (Bonne) Meyerowitz; and adored aunt and friend to many. Francine grew up in Chicago and built a beautiful life centered around the people she loved most. She was a devoted wife, an amazing mother, and a proud grandmother. Over the years, Francine worked as a teacher and office manager, always bringing her warmth, energy, and caring nature to everything she did. Family was everything to Francine. She loved bringing people together and was happiest when her home was filled with family and friends. She especially enjoyed hosting holiday celebrations, summer gatherings by the pool, and time spent playing tennis and canasta or attending a musical. Music was another great passion in Francine’s life. She loved to sing, participated in choirs, and formed a musical group called “Signed Musically Yours.” Her enthusiasm for music and entertaining brought joy to everyone around her. Her greatest joy, however, was becoming a grandmother to her darling granddaughters, Haley and Eliana. She treasured every moment with them and was incredibly proud of the young women they were becoming. Francine’s warmth, generosity, love of family, and joyful spirit touched countless lives. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Memorial donations in Francine’s honor may be made to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) at NAMI.org.
