Obituary

Steven J. Lipton, 60, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, in Kailua, Hawaii. Beloved husband and best friend of Sunny Otake for 15 wonderful years; adored son of Stewart (Fay) Lipton and the late Roberta Lipton; much loved brother of Francine (Dale) Lasky; cherished uncle of Annalise (fiancé Nathanael Ettel), Quintin , and Talia Lasky; treasured friend of many. Steven was a proud graduate of Knox College and went on to earn dual master’s degrees from Spertus Institute and Loyola University Chicago. He built a successful career in information technology and served as the Chief Information Officer at Scientific Device Labs, where he was respected for his intelligence, innovation, and leadership. Steven and his beloved wife, Sunny, later made their home in Kailua, Hawaii, where they embraced the beauty and spirit of island life. Outside of work, Steven found joy in coding, reading, drawing, and painting. He had a particular passion for Jewish studies and Hawaiian history, always eager to learn and share his knowledge. His artistic talent often caught the attention of strangers, who would stop to admire his sketches and paintings as he quietly created them while waiting for dinner at local restaurants. Steven will be remembered for his brilliant mind, creative spirit, quiet kindness, and genuine warmth. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Steven’s memory may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, www.gifts.mdanderson.org or the Hawaiian Humane Society, www.hawaiianhumane.org
