To Mark and Lori, Darryl and Andrea, Laurie and Steve, Lisa and Jon, and all of the grandchildren and great grandchildren,
It is with great sadness that we heard of Ellen’s passing. What a gem she was. She was so welcoming and approachable. I see those qualities reflected in all of you and I hope that brings you comfort.
My husband Dave grew up with the Kabins kids, and I first met Ellen in Park Forest when visiting for Mark and Lori’s wedding. Ellen made me feel so welcomed and I immediately felt folded into the family. She clearly loved that their house had been a neighborhood gathering place and site of many adventures and shenanigans. While we were in graduate school, whenever we would leave Park Forest after a visit home, we had to stop on LaRue Street to get Ellen’s package of Mandelbrot she prepared for us. Seeing her picture here with her famous Mandelbrot warms my heart, and what a great way to capture her spirit! We treasure our memories of her.
Love to you all, and may all families have an Ellen in their lives.

Laurie, Steven and Family. Our deepest heartfelt condolences on the passing of your beloved Ellen. She was an amazing woman. Each time we saw her, she was always smiling and so kind and always curious about my health over the years. She and Sherwin (In blessed memory) were both very great to speak with and I was so happy to see them. She will be missed. May her memory be a blessing.
