Joel S. Katz, 86. Beloved husband for 37 years to Harriet, nee Marx; devoted father of Jamie Katz (Rue Turner) and Rick Katz; caring stepfather of Mark (Caron) Glickman, Larry (Lynn) Glickman, and Jim Glickman (Marcie Kleinman); proud grandfather of Jacob Glickman, Eliana (Michael) Morris, Shoshana Glickman, Sydney Katz, Jessica Glickman, Sophie Glickman (Adam Jones), Adam Glickman, Mia Katz, and Sammi Katz; loving brother of Susan (Bob) Buckwald, Nancy (the late Gary) Luck, Zvi (Linda) Berger, and the late Amy (Maurice) Cohen; fond former spouse of Lori Chase and former father-in-law of Cindy Katz; treasured uncle, cousin, and friend of many. Joel was a valued civil engineer with the Minnesota Department of Transportation for over 45 years. He was a cellist extraordinaire and loved music. He was a gentle soul – never said a bad word about anyone. Joel will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. I am an old friend of Joel’s from Minneapolis. I knew him very well, and I am still very close with his younger sister, Sue (now Buckwald, one of my best friends.). Joel’s nephew Dani Buckwald is married to my daughter Becky. Joel was my high school boyfriend for a long time, and I still have several formal photographs from various fraternity parties and graduations that we attended together. I think his wife Harriet is a wonderful woman, and I’m sorry she is having to suffer his loss.

Our deep sympathies to Joel’s family and friends. For more than three decades I have had the pleasure of knowing Joel through the Glickman family. “What a sweet guy,” was his reputation among all, and what a blessing to be known as such. I’ve also been honored with many conversations over lox, bagels and coffee with Joel and Harriet. Joel will be missed, and it was a great honor to know him.
