I have known Laura since she was born a premie. Enjoyed watching her and her sister grow up and spending time with her and our families at holiday gatherings. When she lived in Cincinnati I got her a job at Bethesda Hospital in our social work department. I like to think that I had an influence on her choosing to get her MSW and becoming a medical social worker, a field I loved. She was fortunate to get a wonderful position at the hospital in Chicago where she eventually landed with the transplant team. Her wedding to Michael was a lovely affair and I loved seeing their relationship evolve. She loved to travel to exotic places, which I was jealous of but happy for her. She was a strong person and fought her disease with everything she had. I was able to have a nice phone conversation with her a few weeks ago. She expressed she wasn’t afraid to die, but didn’t want to die in pain. Hopefully she didn’t suffer at the end. What I will always remember about her is the twinkle in her eyes and her infectious smile. She will be missed by so many.

We are so sorry for your families loss. Laura was such a kind soul who touched many people’s lives always with a big smile on her face. One of those people who you meet once in a lifetime. She was gracious enough to help us during a very tough and scary time in our lives and ultimately was one of the people who helped saved my husband’s life. We will keep you in our thoughts and are always here for any support needed. Laura will be missed by many and never forgotten.

One day, Laura Holzinger answered an ad in the paper for a roommate, and soon after, we were learning about each other and becoming dear friends. She and I came from different backgrounds, and we both loved learing new things from the other. I always admired her kind and loving spirit, she became a dedicated social worker and I, a dedicated nurse. The light you shone in your life is now shining even brighter, now in Heaven with our Father. I loved you as a friend and will always cherish our memories. Laura was a joy to practice yoga with. Her bright smile, infectious laugh, and strong spirit lit up her yoga corner! I invited her to a collage night on 1/2025. She was full of hope and love that night. Grateful for this memory.
