Marvin “Marv” Rotter, 80, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026. Beloved husband and best friend of the late Jan Rotter, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage; father of Steven (Meredith), Jonathan (Lindsay), and Jason (Renee); grandfather to Brody, Logan, Emma, Remi, Hunter, Olivia, Brooks, Joey, and Graham; son of the late Steven and Aida; brother of Jerry (Jan Gross); uncle of Casey, Jamie, and Joey; cousin of Sheri and Marlene Zuckerman, Sylvia, Linda, and the late Dr. Stuart Rosenbush; and dear friend to many. Born in a Displaced Persons Camp outside of Stuttgart, Germany, to Holocaust survivors, Marv immigrated to the United States at six months old. Marv was proud of his Jewish heritage and service to his country as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Through determination and hard work, Marv built a meaningful career in the life insurance industry, ultimately serving as President of AXA Equitable’s Midwest Division. His success allowed him to provide for those he loved, while his generosity extended well beyond family. He was dedicated to preserving and sharing his family’s connection to the Holocaust and supporting institutions such as the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum among others. Together, he and late wife, Jan built a beautiful life, raising three sons who were a constant source of pride and joy. In addition to working to provide for his family, Marv always made time for important family moments. Whether cheering from the stands at his sons’ and grandchildren’s sporting events, attending his granddaughters’ dance performances, enjoying family trips or gathering for holidays and celebrations, Marv was happiest when surrounded by those he loved. He shared a special bond with his extended family, including his in-laws, whom he embraced as his own. He and Jan loved being grandparents. Being Papa Marv brought him immeasurable happiness, and nothing brought him greater joy than watching his nine grandchildren grow, celebrating their accomplishments and milestone events. Despite facing countless health challenges over the last several decades, Marv possessed an extraordinary will to live. He remained determined to make the most of every moment with his family and friends, never letting his challenges stand in the way of showing up for the people he loved. The life he built, the values he instilled, and the memories he created will live on through his children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His love and legacy will live on for generations. Marv will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
