My brother reminded me this week that Mike was the only uncle we’ve ever had. That somehow made his loss even more meaningful to me. However after seeing, hearing and reading about how special he was to so many people throughout his life ,I realized that everyone felt the same loss. Family and friends old and new. I realized we were all family to him in a way and he made everyone feel like they were the most important person in the world to him. Maybe it was even his superpower in the most unassuming way.

I remember inviting Mike to play golf with me which was going to be his first time at it unbeknownst to me. I picked him up, arranged for him to get clubs and took him to the first hole. He had no idea how to hold or swing the club and laughingly we commenced our round. Luckily for us the skys opened up and we could only finish one hole. That short outing with Mike is symbolic of who he was: a fun loving, always laughing and smiling friend who I had only recently met but who I will always remember and miss. Mike rest in peace.
