Obituary
Boris Rakhnovich, 78, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Maria (née Altman), devoted father of Helen (Jeff) Getlin, cherished “Dede” of his adored granddaughter, Jamie Jade Getlin, respected grandfather to Justin (Keeley) Getlin, Jessica (Martin) Jimenez, Janessa (Eric) Benson, and great granddad to Adriana, Luka, Myla and Millie. Boris was a generous, intelligent, compassionate, and humble man, known for his quick wit and warm spirit. He met the love of his life, Maria, while attending technical school in Belarus. He later earned a master’s in mechanical engineering. With courage and determination, Boris took a leap of faith and immigrated from the former Soviet Union with his family in pursuit of a better life. He worked for many years in corporate America before becoming a successful business owner for over four decades. A lifelong learner, he was endlessly curious, sharp-minded, and often the life of the party. His generosity and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Boris loved socializing, traveling, his wife’s amazing cooking, their precious cats and was deeply committed to providing his family with the best life. He lived in Rogers Park, Skokie, and Northbrook before settling in Lake in the Hills. Though a tireless hard worker, medical challenges eventually led him to retire, allowing him to fully enjoy time with Maria, frequenting the casino, visiting with family and friends, and hosting the most fun gatherings. A loyal friend to many, Boris will be dearly missed and forever remembered. Chapel service will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 12:15 PM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Interment will follow at Shalom Memorial Park. We worked together for quite a few years. He had a great knowledge in CNC machine tools, manufacturing and production. It was a pleasure talking to him. He was a very smart and intelligent person. He loved his family very much. He will be always in our hearts.
