Byron was my brother for almost 77 years. I moved away from Chicago in 1971 to Tucson and ultimately to San Francisco in 1985 and Sonoma in 2012. So my interfaces with Byron after 1971 were intermittent. My memories are from our youth. Byron gave me the gift of sports. Growing up that was our strongest connection with us playing golf and softball. He actually thought his shrimpy little brother could be a Major League Baseball player. Talk about delusional. As we grew older and I moved away he moved in to being a dad to my 3 nieces and a husband of almost 61 years. He had strong views which didn’t always align with mine and we did have other ups and downs. At the end of the day he was a hard working man who believed in fair play and that if you do a good job you deserve to be rewarded. I was very sad to see how his last 2.5 years of deteriorating health led to his death. We never want to. lose a loved one but we also don’t want to see them suffer. I am glad to see he no longer is suffering. Having lost 2 brother in 13 months I hope to move forward as a positive presence to my nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law. In these sad times we really see how important family. The past is the past the future is the way forward.

Byron was my brother almost 77 years. I left Chicago in 1971 to move to Tucson and have spent my entire ensuing life in Arizona and the Bay Area. So our relationship was based on that distance. From that perspective I saw him become a dad of 3 wonderful girls/women, a good husband who almost made to 61 years. He believed in hard work and fairness. You do a good job you should get rewarded. He lived through many changes but always stayed connected to his beliefs. We certainly didn’t always agree but that’s okay. He gave me the greatest gift and that was the love of sports. My first memories with him were always about sports and for that I thank him. He also taught about investing and it has led to a pretty good life. I am sad for his passing but believe that is in a pain free situation and for that I am eternally grateful. I always wondered what it be like to be the oldest but I didn’t think it would happen through losing 2 older brothers in 13 months. Now that I am the survivor I hope I can be there for Byron and Sherwin’s children as a connection to their fathers and to my sister-in-laws I hope to continue to be their brother.
