Obituary
Stuart C. Nathan, 85. Beloved husband of Jo Ann, nee Kay, for 64 wonderful years; devoted father of Robert Nathan (Anne Sundberg) and Scott Nathan (Laura DeBonis); proud grandfather of Lia, Asher, and Abigail; dear brother of Barbara (Don) Waisman and Leslie (Adrienne) Nathan; caring uncle, friend, mentor, and colleague of many. A proud graduate of University of Michigan Business School and University of Chicago Law School, Stuart began his career as a real estate attorney at Arvey, Hodes, and Mantynband. In 1972, Stuart joined JMB Realty as a partner, board member, and executive of the company and many of its related entities where he took a prominent role in a wide array of investments, heading up many of the firm’s hotel, mixed-use, and office developments. A proud booster of Chicago and its architecture, Stuart led the development of 900 North Michigan Avenue and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange building, as well as many other projects in the city and around the country. Stuart was a longtime member of the Lincoln Park Zoo board, and he and Jo Ann were founding supporters and honorary trustees of Facing History and Ourselves and initial sponsors of the University of Michigan’s Corporate Environmental Management Program. He loved spending time with his friends, family, and, especially, his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln Park Zoo or Northwestern University Hospital’s oncology research program. Chapel service Wednesday, October 14, 10 AM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Interment to follow at Shalom Memorial Park.
