Obituary

Larry J. Stone, 83, a lifelong Chicago-area resident, passed away on August 16, 2026, leaving behind a family who adored him, friendships that spanned a lifetime, and a legacy defined by kindness, love and a wonderfully gentle spirit.

Born in Chicago on October 20, 1942, to Gladys and Leo Stone, brother to the late Jack Stone. Larry grew up in the city and attended Amundsen High School.

But the greatest love of Larry’s life was Myra (née Lasky), his wife of 61 years, who preceded him in death in 2023. Larry and Myra shared an extraordinary love story. They were true soulmates, devoted to one another and to the life and family they built together. The love they shared remained at the center of Larry’s life.

Larry was the loving father of Jeff Stone, Donna Rosuck and her husband, David, and Andy Stone and his wife, Laurel. He was the incredibly proud “Papa” of Ethan Rosuck, Zoey Rosuck and Aaron Stone.

Being Papa was one of Larry’s greatest joys. He loved watching his grandchildren grow and succeed. He was extremely present for their lives. Whether it was events, graduations, milestones, shared interests, or simply going for ice cream, he simply loved spending time with them.

In 1977, Larry took a chance and opened HP Tops and then Top Half a few years later, an imprinted sportswear, family business that became iconic and a proud part of his life. He truly enjoyed the neighborhood people and customers. Through the business, Larry touched countless lives and became a well-liked and respected member of the communities he served.

That same loyalty extended to his friendships. Larry treasured friends he had known since childhood, and throughout the different chapters of his life. He stayed in touch, remained connected and valued those relationships deeply.

Larry loved the Cubs, Bears, reading the newspaper, collectible memorabilia, trips to Mexico, Steak ‘n Shake, Lou Malnati’s and movies. He had a particular affection for the original The Magnificent Seven, Spider-Man and James Bond films.

These were some of the things that made Larry Larry. And he will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions in Larry’s memory be made to Reach Rescue at www.ReachRescue.org.

Private funeral services will be held. For shiva information and to leave condolences, please contact Shalom Memorial Funeral Home at www.shalommemorial.org or (847) 255-3520.
