With sadness in our hearts, Allan Cohen, age 78 passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, surrounded by his loving family. He married the love of his life Marsha of 50 years and together they built a beautiful family blessed with two loving daughters and sons in-law Wendy (Daniel) Morowitz and Erica (Paull) Knell. His legacy continues through his three beloved grandchildren Hannah, Iris, and Yosef Knell whom he adored and cherished. Nothing brought Allan his greater pride or joy than his amazing grandchildren. They were the light of his life and the center of his world.

Family was everything to him and his amazing his sister Ilene Hauser; sisters-in-law Jodi (Burack) and Ina (Cohen) and brother-in-law Scott Burack. Allan was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews, all of whom will remember his kindness, warmth, and unwavering love for family. They would often say who is the “greatest” Uncle Allan. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lillian and Harry Cohen, brother Herbert Cohen, sister Shirley Charnowitz, brother-in-law Gerald Hauser and niece Joanne Charnowitz Hart, all of whom played significant roles in his life.

A proud veteran, Allan served his country in the U.S. Army 25th infantry division from 1969-1970 as a lineman. He carried the camaraderie and discipline from his military service into his civilian life, joining the work force at Accurate Perforation at the young age of 17. After his service, he returned to work at Wood Bros. before resuming his career at Accurate, where he dedicated himself for over 50 years until his retirement on April 18, 2024.

Allan was a man of many passions, in his earlier years, he found joy in golfing, fishing, riding a bike, garage sale hunting, and exploring the beach with his trusty metal detector. He was an avid collector of coins, a hobby that reflected his appreciation for history and detail. A lifelong fan of the Chicago White Sox. Beyond his personal interests, Allan was a pillar in his community. An active member of the Fraida-Cameron Chabad of Wilmette, he also participated in a VA support group, offering camaraderie and understanding to fellow veterans.

May his memory forever be a blessing. As his father would say, “May your life be as bright as the Edison light”.
