We were so shocked and saddened to hear about Brian’s passing. The funeral service just concluded was so meaningful and authentic, and touched my heart very much. My long distance relationship with my cousins Marion and Sandi didn’t permit us to get to know Marion and Ernie’s family very well, and I regret that I have few memories of actual interactions with Brian over the years. May his memory be a source of comfort and strength to all those that knew him and loved him.

We won’t be able to participate the shiva reception tonight, so perhaps this message might represent us there. I will close with the traditional verse recited upon departing a house of mourning, “HaMakom yenachem etchem b’toch sh’e’ar avelii Tzion v’ Yerushalaim; may the Almighty comfort you among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem”.

Dear Gottlieb Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Brian’s passing. Although I only met Brian once, I have a very long history with your family. I grew up living across the street from the Garfinkel family, and I reconnected with Marion, and continue to be extremely close friends with Sandy. I also have known your Dad’s family since I was a little girl because my Mom was extremely close friends with your Grandma Rose and her sisters.
The loss of a sibling is like losing a part of yourself, and may you all find comfort in Brian’s memory. May he rest in peace.
